Eileen

I garduated from Liverpool Uni in 1991 and was involved in the Uni's SEA Society. It was great as I made quite a few friends. Unfortunately over the years I lost contact with them. I would eb interested to find out more about the alumni.

Regards

Dear Dr. Bunnell,

I find your research to be fascinating, and more so because it has a personal attachment to it.

In 1946, my grandfather, according to my father, told his then-4-year-old son that he was going to be going on a ship in Singapore to work as a merchant sailor.

My grandfather, Othman, then went on to stay at Liverpool. In the late 70s, my father received a letter from his half-sister in Sri Lanka (It seemed my grandfather married there and had children en route to Liverpool) and only a few months ago, met his half-sister and her son, working in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

My father went to London for studies in 1966, where he met his father, on his deathbed, in Liverpool. My grandfather instantly recognised him, even though he came with a friend and did not say who he was. A week after that, he was carrying his late father's corspe to his burial.

Anyway, I am now in London on a short holiday and I will be travelling to Liverpool to look for my grandfather's grave (ok I will admit to also see the birthplace of the Beatles and go to Anfield). I was told that 7 Jermyn Street should be the first place to go to get clues where the grave is.

I hope to find the grave. I will let you know if I do. (No I am not a student at the University of Liverpool as so required in your note above though I wouldn't think you'd mind)

Anyway, thanks for your interest in this topic. I am strangely attracted to Liverpool.

Warmest Regards
Ahmad Izham Omar
